Welcome
History
A salvaged historical industrial building, European architecture, and a tradition of over 60 years of restaurateuring in Kankakee are blended at River Street and West Avenue, the location of Sully’s.
Originally opened in 1947 by James Verchio and his brother, Sullivan, from whom the “Sully’s” was derived. Sully’s has been located in several different locations since 1947, but has been at its current West Avenue address since 1972. Sully’s is located in one of the area’s historical landmarks. The building, circa 1850 was used as a warehouse during Civil War Days and later Christian Ruhle operated his material service business for many years from this historical spot. The original hand cut stone walls of local limestone are 21 inches thick. Also retained are the original 12 x 12 wood support timbers now used decoratively. The banisters, railings and stained glass date from the mid 1800’s. In the main dining room, the massive stone fireplace soars to meet the 30-foot ceiling and is always decorated elegantly to fit the season or special occasion. Sully’s provides gracious accommodations for parties large and small on 2 levels and many brides have found themselves saying “I Do” before the soaring fireplace in Sully’s main dining room. The unique facilities, exceptional food, and efficient service assure enjoyable parties and successful meetings. Sully’s (Your destination for special occasions since 1947) is the perfect choice for a lifetime of precious memories. Any restaurant that can trace its lineage back 60+ years must qualify as a landmark and certainly must serve its public well.
